IMPORTANT - End of support for i5/os V5R3 22/04/2009
On Thursday 30th April 2009, IBM is withdrawing support for clients running the i5/os V5R3 operating system. In order to maintain support, you will have to upgrade to V5R4 or the latest release i6.1.

If you are unsure of next steps or are unable to decide what is the best solution for your business, we can work with you to ensure a smooth upgrade. With our technical knowledge and capability, we can look at your business and decide what the best course of action is and deliver a solution within budget and agreed timescales to ensure your business maintains support.

V5R3 was the last release supported on AS/400 models 170, 250, 720, 730, and 740. However, there is often a strong return on investment in maintenance and power alone to be made by replacing these old servers with the new Power6 range - allowing you to stay supported whilst saving your business money.

Obtaining the media and license keys for an operating system upgrade is free under an IBM Software Maintenance contract. However, our customers take advantage of Apex’s wealth of experience in this area to ensure that the upgrade is planned and implemented correctly. Added to this, upgrading to V6R1 requires a RISC-RISC object migration – a process which converts objects in the system to optimise them for version 6. Apex can help prepare and execute this conversion along with providing guidance on best practice to run at V6R1.
